Lumumba
On the 17th January 1961, the only man in Congolese political history that I believe genuinely cared about the Congo, was brutally assassinated. Patrice Lumumba, our first prime minister, he loved and cared for the future of his country so much so he died for Congo.
Many people, do not really know the story of Lumumba, what he did what he campaign for, what he struggled for and how he died and by the hands of who. I do not like to involve myself in politics, however in order to understand why and how Congo is in the very situation it is today, we need to look back at the history.
In my opinion, and many would disagree, Lumumba meant well for Congo, he had a good heart and he meant well, but the decisions he had made during that time in the history of humanity were not going to work in his favour, to be fair nothing would have worked in his or Congo's favour for that matter, other than being submissive to the west to Belgians.

For anyone who wants to find out more, watch this video, it is very shocking, it is incredible how heartless the world was, and looking at the state in which Congo is in today it seems as if that heartlessness has never left Congo's atmosphere.
Its made me think, looking at the whole history of Congo, have we as Congolese people have never had the chance to be happy? Would we ever have a chance to be happy?
Education, it the way forward I personally feel, we need educate OURSELVES with OUR history in order to shape OUR future.
Save the Congo, the charity I am supporting throughout my reign put on this event and I was invited down to be on the panel and perform my poem dedicated to Lumumba. Listening to other people's opinion on Lumumba was very interested, it was also very heart warming to see some individuals who were not from DRC in the crowd. This displayed to me that we as the Congolese people are not alone, we have friends and alliances in other countries all hoping and routing for peace and a greater future, which is always lovely know.

One day Lumumba's dream will come true, though it has been 52 years we will power through another 52 years just the find peace, to have his dream manifest into reality. Save the Congo has not given up, me as Miss Congo has not given, all of the people who attended have not given up neither, my message to you, whether you are Congolese or not...Do not give up. Lumumba never did, till his death, till his last breath, he never gave up, so despite of the situations in Congo today, we should always have hope.
